The Charentais melon (also known as French cantaloupe or Cavaillon melon) is a premium heirloom variety of true cantaloupe (Cucumis melo var. cantalupensis), renowned for its exceptional flavor and aroma. Many consider it one of the world's most delicious melons, often described as far superior to common North American "cantaloupes" (which are actually muskmelons).

Small and round (softball-sized) → typically 2–3 pounds (0.9–1.4 kg).
Smooth, thin rind → gray-green to creamy beige when ripe, with subtle dark green ribs or sutures (little to no netting, unlike American cantaloupes).
Deep orange, dense, juicy flesh → intensely sweet (high sugar content) with a creamy texture and strong, perfumed floral/tropical aroma.
