A larger, later selection of Early Jersey Wakefield developed in the 1880's by the F.W. Bogiano Co. Excellent early to mid-season cabbage produces 4-6lb conical shaped heads well-suited for fresh eating, cooking, and kraut-making. Often planted as a spring cabbage, but also suitable for fall planting.
Sow seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before last frost. Transplant outdoors as soon as soil can be worked or approximately 4-5 weeks before last frost. Fall crops can be started approximately 3 months before last frost and set outdoors once seedlings have put out at least three true leaves. Cabbage plants are heavy feeders and therefore will benefit from a heavy dose of well-composted manure. Floating row covers and biological controls are effective tools to protect against damaging insects.
Planting Guide included. Ships in padded envelope.
